For Kate and Jake, a charming couple from Colorado Springs, the dream of a romantic proposal became a reality in one of the most iconic locations in the city: San Miniato al Monte, the ideal set for these romantic marriage proposal photos.
A picture-perfect proposal in Florence
San Miniato al Monte, with its panoramic view over Florence, provides a splendid setting for such an unforgettable moment. As their photographer, I aimed to capture the purest emotions of the marriage proposal – the surprise, the joy, the love – through a balance of spontaneity and artistic elegance.
As the golden light of a March afternoon gently illuminated the cityscape, Jake dropped to one knee, and Kate’s reaction was nothing short of magical. The wonderful backdrop of Florence, with its Renaissance rooftops and the majestic Duomo, made this moment even more special.
As always, my goal was to find the perfect blend between natural emotions and aesthetically refined shots. I alternated between capturing the couple’s unfiltered reactions and gently guiding them into beautifully composed frames that enhanced the romance of the moment. Kate and Jake embraced both approaches effortlessly, making the session flow naturally. Their chemistry, combined with the superb setting, resulted in a series of timeless images that truly tell their love story.

Something that not everyone knows, or thinks about, is that there’s a hidden advantage in shooting marriage proposal photos in Florence during the winter months: it’s the serenity of the city. Unlike the peak tourist season, March offers a more intimate experience, allowing couples to enjoy their photoshoot without worrying about crowds and strangers in the background.
On this particular day, the weather was ideal for photography: soft clouds diffused the sunlight, creating a dreamy, romantic atmosphere. The occasional rays of sun breaking through the sky added a touch of warmth to the scene, making the entire session even more unforgettable.
After the emotional proposal, we shot more marriage proposal photos at Piazzale Michelangelo, another iconic Florentine location. This spot, also known for its sweeping views over the city, allowed us to capture additional portraits of Kate and Jake as they soaked in the joy of their engagement.
